Multi-year observations of some 500,000 Chinese aged 30 to 79 years have shown an interesting fact. People who eat spicy food almost daily live longer, ie. they are less likely to get lethal diseases.

They hypothesize that capsaicin, the active substance found in hot peppers, has a major role in antioxidant. This is also an anti-inflammatory activity that helps fight obesity and cancer.
