A recently released study from University of Birmingham in the U.K., concludes that drinking water before meals helps you lose weight. This study looked at 84 obese adults and 41 of them drank 470 ml of water (pure natural water, not sparkling or any kind or flavored water) before each meal, while 43 older adults were asked to imagine that they were fed before eating their food.
Surprisingly, those who drank water before meals lost an average of 1.3 kg more than those who imagined being fed before meals. In fact, during the 12 weeks of the experiment, those who drank water before the three main meals lost an average of 4.5 kg, compared to those who drank once daily or not at all, who lost only 800 grams.
But beyond the fact that it helps you lose weight, why should you drink more water? There are endless benefits of this elixir, but most of all it keeps your skin healthy, your gut is functioning properly, and your muscles get the right energy and all of your vital organs after being supplied with water work smoothly.
You can also get juice from soups, vegetables or fruits, but most of the amount needed is from water and other beverages. Don’t include coffee or cocktails here: Alcohol and coffee act as diuretics, which means they draw more water from the body than they put into it.
